Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program:
Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) is a voluntary program designed to assist public housing residents in becoming economically independent and self-sufficient. With the support of local agencies, FSS combines case management, education, job training and support through newsletters, workshops, support group meetings and ongoing services to aid the family in becoming self-sufficient. Participants identify their career goals, develop an individual service plan and receive case management services, encouragement, motivation and moral support.
There are many benefits to participating in the FSS program; obtain higher education/ job training that will result in wage increases, receiving an escrow check upon successful program completion and economic independence allowing a family/ individual to move out of public housing. If you are a public housing resident 18 years or older and are determined to make changes in your life circumstances, interested in obtaining more education, job training and employment to free yourself from all welfare assisted programs you can apply.
